Why does hair turn gray? - A constructive review

This was published on Yahoo recently:
...gray hair is simply a part of the normal aging process, and the rate you go silver is genetically predetermined...Scientists have yet to identify the exact mechanism by which melanocyte cell death occurs...It may feel like you sprout more grays in the wake of a stressful event, but that's probably because middle age is basically a series of anxiety-ridden events. Between working, raising kids, and caring for older parents, the "sandwich" years of 45-65 can be stressful, especially for women..

The article lacks substance and practical tips for the public to implement. Therefore, I wasn't satisfied with the article and did some further research to try to cover the gaps. The following are some relevant articles with more comprehensive information for you to read on this subject.
Hair ageing comprises decrease in hair pigmentation (graying) and decrease in hair production (alopecia). Like the skin, the hair follicle is subject to intrinsic and extrinsic ageing. Intrinsic factors are related to individual genetic and epigenetic mechanisms with interindividual variation. Examples are familial premature graying and AGA. Extrinsic factors include smoking and UVR (ultraviolet radiation). Experimental evidence supports the hypothesis that oxidative stress also plays a role in the ageing process of the hair follicle.

Stress really can make your hair go grey, scientists have found...

Scientists may have figured out why hair turns gray, and their finding may open the door to new anti-graying strategies...New research shows that hair turns gray as a result of a chemical chain reaction that causes hair to bleach itself from the inside out...

According to recent scientific studies, low levels of catalase may play a role in the graying process of human hair. Hydrogen peroxide is naturally produced by the body and catalase breaks it down. If catalase levels decline, hydrogen peroxide cannot be broken down as well. This allows the hydrogen peroxide to bleach the hair from the inside out. This finding may someday be incorporated into treatments for graying hair.
